When?

When did shopping at consignment (thrift) shops become the "in" thing to do?? This has really stressed me out! I have always looked for deals when it comes to my kids clothing and there is a GREAT new consignment (thrift) shop down the street from my house it's WONDERFUL but it's packed all the time and it's really stressing me out! I want to know when the snooty people started shopping thrift. Is it because the economy is in the crapper and the credit your family has been living on has finally run out? If so, then welcome to the world of REALITY folks, nice to have ya! Anywho off track. I love love love love me some consignment (thrift) shops. I went yesterday and got Lydia a nice patch look dress for 4.50, Claire a oh so cute sail boat themed dress for 4.50, Georgia two smocked dresses, both with their original tags on them, one for 6.50 and one for 10.00. So in all 4 dresses for around 32.00, tax included. You can't even hardly get a on sale smocked dress for 32 bucks! It really makes my day to get these deals. BUT all you new folks are making it to where it's slim pickins, ya'll need to go on back to buying retail price, selling them to the consignment shops for a fraction of what you paid after your darlings wore said dress 2 or 3 times so I can get a KILLER deal for my little darlings! Just kidding (kinda).

Ed painted this for Claire who threw a fit to have him paint a University of Memphis tiger on her hand, so she got her way.

On a funny note, yesterday I was sifting through the sizes and kept bumping into a lady that had children is similar sizes. I being nice, said "Boy don't you just love thrift shops." she said to me "Consignment is such a nicer word to use." Ummm whatever!!!

you are funny - I still have not ever shopped in one of those places for my kids. I should really - but I buy stuff from Target or Walmart for like $4.00 anyway - same price really!

There aren't many good thrift shops around here, but there's a great one in Springfield. I'd go more often if they were closer. And what a snoot of a woman, they're thrift shops lady - stop trying to use a "nice" word to justify being there, like it is something to be embarrassed about.

Oh I'm also all about the Target sales! Love to see the 50% off sings! But when it comes to buying smocked dresses, you can't find heirloom smocked at Wal Mart or Target, so it really pays off when you can find them to get stuff either consignment or thrift.

I do love THRIFT shops! Trouble is, now that my boys aren't babies anymore, it is harder and harder to find clothes in thrift stores that are in decent shape. I think boys are just too hard on their clothes!

Ya know, Kira, I have the same issue with Claire's size. Size 5 is so hard to find clothes for, it's aggravating to shop for her. Even in Target and Wal Mart, it seems everyone in the city has a kid in size 5.
